Gradient
Have you ever been on a bike going downhill? It’s a lot harder to control than on a flat surface. What about biking uphill? Most give up halfway and walk their bike up because it’s too hard. It’s the same for those with mobility difficulties but can potentially be more difficult or dangerous to stop halfway.
The gradient is the slope or incline along a footpath in the direction of travel. It indicates how steep the path is.
Let’s see what Tim has to say about measuring the gradients.
Gradients are subcategorised by the angle of the steepest point that cannot be avoided:
0.0 - 1.9 degrees
2.0 - 3.9 degrees
4.0 - 5.9 degrees
6.0 - 7.9 degrees
8.0 + degrees
